Davis had to change the past to change the future, that much he knew. His past was full of mistakes, and his future was dreary. The old man promised him it could all be changed if he would just step into the machine and go back to the places he never wanted to visit again.
“Come on, son. I don’t have all day. You doing this or what?” The old man was creepy, but he’d give anything to be able to make a better future for himself. The old man stood next to the machine, reaching out a long finger to point in his direction. Drawing in a deep breath, Davis nodded, stepped into the machine and closed his eyes.
He heard the squeak of the lever as the old man lifted it up. A bright flash engulfed him as the machine came to life. Opening his eyes for a moment, he squinted to block out the bright light and held his gaze on the scientist before him. The old man said nothing, just smiled with a crooked grin and swatted his long grey hair away from his face as he pushed a red button. ”Best of luck, son. I’ll see you in ten years.”
With that, another bright light flashed, and the machine squealed and groaned as it roared to life. A moment passed by, and there was nothing but the squeal from the machine and the blinding light. It was followed by darkness and total silence.
To be continued…
