From the book, “Just Write One Thing Today; 365 Creative Prompts to Inspire You Every Day” by John Gillard
Stuck In the Carpool Lane
“We’re past the age of heroes and hero kings… Most of our lives are basically mundane and dull, and it’s up to the writer to find ways to make them interesting.”
-John Updike
Take these mundane chores and add something to each sentence, which might serve to spice it up and make it interesting.
Chores:
I put the washing machine on a full cycle…
We were stuck in the carpool lane on the way to the office…
She ordered bacon, egg, some toast on the side, and a long black…
The line for passport control was long and very, very slow…
Spiced up:
I put the washing machine on a full cycle and prayed the blood stains would come out.
We were stuck in the carpool lane on the way to the office, so we put the car in park, turned the radio up and got out to dance.
She ordered bacon, egg, some toast on the side, and a long black mug to hold her ice water; nothing else would do.
The line for passport control was long and very, very slow so I pointed to a man with a brown beard near me and yelled: “He’s got a gun!”
