I’ve finally done it. I stand at the top, looking around at the ground below me. The view from here is incredible, and yet somehow it doesn’t satisfy the longing I have. I thought it would be so much more than this. I’d finally made it to the top of the mountain, and yet it didn’t feel like I’d done much of anything. Months of training for this moment, and it didn’t feel like success.

I took a deep breath and sat down on the cold rock. The view from here was amazing. The sun was just beginning to set and a fog filled the valley down below. I wondered how many people were living in that fog, how many couldn’t see the beauty of the world they lived in. I was one of them, or at least I had been until I’d come here. Maybe this journey wasn’t about success. Maybe it was about seeing above the fog, about gazing upon things I wouldn’t see otherwise. I sat awhile longer, contemplating my journey and how far I had come. Then I stood, feeling better about my path and ready to return to the fog with a new understanding of the beauty within.
