The Day The Trillium Spoke

Write a poem about the day a wildflower speaks.

The day the trillium spoke, he couldn’t believe what it said.

Whispering secrets, long since hidden,

Speaking of days long past, spectacular sunrises and amazing sunsets,

Of hikers who journeyed from so very far away,

And animals who lived there each and every day.

The day the trillium spoke,

It told the tales of the trees,

Of leaves growing slowly and then suddenly bursting forth,

Of slow changes each fall, and then of letting go,

As colorful bursts spin their way to the ground,

Covering the ground as the now begins to fall.

The day the trillium spoke,

It told of the river, flowing free and strong

Season after season,

Barely slowly down even when the ice begins to form,

And the bitter cold starts to set in.

The day the trillium spoke,

It warned of seasons to come,

Of a white blanket covering the land,

Of critters laying down for a long nap,

While others twittered around, searching for their next meal,

And making the white into a beautiful place.

The day the trillium spoke,

It whispered of a past that was tough,

A past mixed with sorrow and joy.

It spoke of hope, of things to come, and stories worth carrying on

The day the trillium spoke.
